Meet the Designer, Craig Johnson
My interest in Web Design began around 2004. I was working closely with my father to promote his Watercolour Art and set about designing flyers and advertisements to place in local shops & businesses. I found I was able to create striking & colourful advertisements to promote the limited edition prints & greetings cards available for sale. My fathers artwork became quite popular and bouyed by this initial success we decided that we could reach a much larger customer base if we had a website. It was from that point my interest in Web Design began.
Having had a general interest in computing from a young age I was already familiar the workings of many software packages. I was using my Apple Mac almost daily to pursue my interest in writing & recording music amongst other things and so I decided to research what was involved in producing a website. I followed some basic tutorials and attempted to produce a basic one page site for my fathers artwork. Although I was reasonably happy with the end result it was clear that to produce a website with greater functionality and usability I would need to learn much more about the intricacies of HTML and web design.
I followed up this initial interest by taking the CIW Associate course in web design in 2006 and having passed sucessfully I followed this up shortly after by achieving the CIW Professional qualification in 2007.
Having found my feet I completed the Watercolour Site and transformed it in to a fully functional website including a built in shopping cart setup for buying artwork online. This has since led on to other projects some of which can be found in my portfolio. In the winter of 2008 I set up Digital Colours based at my home in Essex to promote myself and my design services to a wider audience.
In addition to my web work, I lead an active life with my family which includes my wife Rebecca and young daughter Madeline. As time permits, I enjoy family, listening to music, playing the guitar and pursuing my favourite pass time watching West Ham United Football Club!
